Transition from the CYGWIN based installation to the CECAPS/UFMG version.
With the new implementation of PSPP by CECAPS/UFMG there is now a native Windows version available.
At this moment I believe the native Windows version as supplied by CECAPS/UFMG is the best for Windows users,
so I will discontinue to maintain the CYGWIN based implementation of PSPP.
The CYGWIN based version and the version supplied by CECAPS/UFMG can be installed and used on 1 PC without problems. If you have installed both, the shortcut PSPPIRE will start the CYGWIN based version and the shortcut PSPP will start the CECAPS/UFMG version. It is even possible to run both versions concurrent. The only problem is a mix up in the PSPP entry from "All Programs".
The clean way to transit from the CYGWIN based installation to the CECAPS/UFMG version is:
- use the UNINSTALL which can be found in "All Programs"|"PSPP"
- most likely you get a message that the directory is not empty. Remove the complete directory with the Windows Explorer
- get the software from CECAPS/UFMG
- install the CECAPS/UFMG version
FAQ:
Q: I installed both versions, is this a problem?
A: No
Q: I installed both versions in the same directory. Is this a problem?
A: Not for using PSPP, but it might be a problem when you want to un-install 1 version.
Q: I couldn't wait and installed the CECAPS/UFMG before I uninstalled the CYGWIN based version. What should I do now?
A: If you want to get rid of the CYGWIN based version:
----just delete the complete directory structure where this version is installed using the Windows Explorer. Usually this is C:\CYGWIN. This will leave some registry entries, but they won't heart.
----remove the entry "PSPP" in "All programs", with a left mouseclick on "Start" | "explore" | "Programs" | "PSPP" and remove it.
----remove the PSPP shortcuts from the desktop
--- After this you need to reinstall the CECAPS/UFMG version to get the entry in "All programs" again.
Have fun!
